Just before the holidays, the winning class in the English debate competition was presented with some well-deserved prizes: each pupil received a cinema ticket donated by our Parents’ Association, Alfa, which we would like to thank once again warmly for their unfailing support!

Well done to Class 2nde 5 and their teacher, and happy holidays to everyone – perhaps with a good film on the big screen to round them off?

1ère students bravely defying the heatwave in Brussels

From Sunday 21st to Friday 26th June 2026, seven of our teachers accompanied 101 Première students on an exciting five-day trip to Brussels. Packed with EU-focused activities, the programme gave students the opportunity to experience first-hand how the European Union works and to explore its institutions in greater depth.

During our stay, we visited the EU Parliament and the Parlamentarium, the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Commission’s interactive exhibition Experience Europe, and the House of European History. Each visit offered a different perspective on European cooperation, democracy and policymaking.

One day was dedicated to the theme of human rights. Following an inspiring presentation by Marian Blondeel from United Nations, students joined Jean-Philippe Theyskens from the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium for a fascinating introduction to paintings depicting human rights violations. They were then able to explore the artworks in the museum themselves and reflect on the powerful stories they tell.

Throughout the week, students also completed a variety of fun and engaging challenges. These ranged from identifying Brussels’ iconic architecture—such as the magnificent guildhalls around the Grand-Place and comparing Art Nouveau with Neoclassical styles—to spotting as many embassies as possible, keeping an eye out for diplomatic number plates (without photographing them, of course!), counting VIP motorcades, and discovering all sorts of sights and details that you simply don’t come across in our little corner of the world.

On our final day, with the heatwave reaching its peak, we still managed to admire some of Brussels’ famous comic-strip murals. However, we decided to give the Atomium a miss—it would have felt less like sightseeing and more like climbing around inside an oven!

Heatwave or not, the week was packed with discoveries, new perspectives and experiences that will stay with our students long after they left Brussels.

Bridging Nations: Our February Erasmus+ week

The first week of February 2026, our school had the pleasure of hosting an enriching Erasmus+ mobility that brought together our students and their counterparts from Croatia, Portugal and Spain for a week filled with discovery, collaboration, and cultural exchange.

Discovery Day: Welcoming New Friends

The week kicked off with a Discovery Day. Students were greeted by our headmasters, before engaging in ice-breaking activities designed to foster connections among students. The day continued with a city rally through Saarbrücken that encouraged teamwork and exploration.

A Day in Strasbourg: European Parliament Visit

On the second day, students embarked on an exciting journey to Strasbourg. The highlight was a visit to the European Parliament, where students learned about the workings of European governance. After a lunch break in the city, participants had free time to explore Strasbourg’s picturesque streets and rich history, deepening their understanding of European culture.

Project work: (M)EatLess

Wednesday began with an introduction to the issue of dietary choices and carbon emissions, followed by interviews conducted by students in the centre of Saarbrücken and at the university. In the afternoon, students collaborated to select their best interviews and write reports. The day concluded with a tasting session of various vegan products, promoting awareness of dietary choices.

Discovering Trier: A Journey Through History

The fourth day took students to Trier, one of Germany’s oldest cities. After a guided tour that showcased Trier’s historical landmarks, students enjoyed free time to explore the city further. This experience allowed participants to immerse themselves in the local culture, enriching their understanding of German heritage.

Food here, food there: a comparison of supermarket food

The final day of the program was dedicated to exploring differences between supermarkets in Germany, Croatia, Portugal and Spain. Students visited local supermarkets to compare products and gather insights on food sourcing practices. They returned to school to prepare presentations, sharing their findings with peers.

The week concluded with a heartfelt goodbye event at a bowling arena, where students celebrated their shared experiences and newfound friendships.

A Week to Remember

This Erasmus+ exchange week was a testament to the power of cultural exchange and collaboration. Students not only expanded their horizons and improved their English skills but also formed lasting connections that will continue beyond this week!

8th English-language Creative Writing Marathon – Christmas edition

On Friday, December 5th, students from Year 8 to 2nde came together to unleash their imagination and craft amazing stories.

With snacks shared and ideas exchanged, participants enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere where they could write freely, and seek advice from our supportive English teachers. The energy was palpable as everyone dove into their writing, and many were thrilled at the possibility of having their texts published on our school website!

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this event. Here are some of the texts that emerged from this night of creativity:

The Letter I Never Sent

I’m looking out of the window and I see a white car passing by. It’s snowing. It feels the same as a few years ago.

But a few years ago, everything was different. He was with me. He honked in his white car, and I couldn’t run up the stairs faster. It was on a cold December day. I was wearing my red scarf that he got me for my birthday.

And here I am, exactly three years later. But now I’m alone. Sometimes I ask myself the question, “How did it end?” But that’s not true. I know how it ended. I know why it ended.

And it was the most hurtful thing I ever had to see: to see the person who once loved me the most falling in love with another woman. Witnessing this just broke me inside.

For three years, I couldn’t love another person the same way I loved him, or I just couldn’t love anyone that hard. When he left, he took a part of me with him. Because after three years, I still know how his laugh sounds, the way he looked at me when I came home after a cold walk, and the way his cheeks turned into a soft berry pink after another workday. I thought I was going to see all these things for the rest of my life, but my fate had another plan.

And I know it’s going to be better for me when I let him go and move on, but forgetting him feels like trying to know somebody you never met. Because he is everywhere I go. I see his face in the white cars, in the signs with the name of the city where he lives, in the digits after the decimal point of pi, in the title of my favourite song, in my infinity-heart necklace, at the place I saw him the last time, even in my smile when I’m looking in the mirror and in the colour red.

When my best friend asked me, “How was it for you to love him?” I told her that loving him was red. I loved him with all I had. And maybe that was the problem: I gave him everything, and with that, I took the risk. The risk that he could, if he wanted, throw everything away that I gave him. And in the end, this was exactly what he did. He threw me away.

And always when I realize that I never meant the same thing to him as he meant to me, I start crying. But am I allowed to cry? Because after all these years, am I still allowed to cry about a man who’s emotionally still a teenage boy and broke my heart? The moment I realized that it was going to be over, and he started to ignore me, I was sure that it was my fault. Did I say something wrong? I went over everything I said. Did I do something wrong? I went over everything I did. I thought that I could fix it. Fix our relationship.

So, the day before Christmas, I sat down and wrote a letter. I wrote a letter for him, trying to express my feelings and the way I loved him. That I saw sparks fly whenever he smiled. That his outfit was like a daydream, how he walked with his head down, and I was the one he was walking to. How he loved me like I was brand new. I wanted to put all these things in a letter to prove how much I was in love with him. But I never came to the moment where I could give or send him the letter. Because that same night, he broke up with me.

On the phone, with a call. I never knew how to explain that his call was, for me, more than just a call. He called me, and I just asked how his day was because I didn’t know that the call was going to end like this. With the sentence: “I found another person who makes me laugh, another person I want to smile with, a new person that I love, because you’re not that person anymore. I don’t love you anymore.”

After that call, I didn’t want to send the letter anymore, but I also didn’t want to throw the letter away. Because in this letter was my favourite part of me. The part when I was with him.

In a week, it’s Christmas. This is the third Christmas I’m going to spend alone. Alone and sad. And for all my friends who always say, “Let him go, just move on and let him go!” I try. I try so hard, every day, every week, to let him go. I just want to step into the daylight and let him go. But then I remember him. And remembering him brings flashbacks and echoes, and I tell myself it’s time to let go. But moving on from him is impossible when I still see it all in my head. And I see it in burning red.

But losing him was blue. Blue because I cried. I cried a long time ago. And it was impossible to stop. So I know how much he hurt me.

And my Christmas wish is the same as two years ago. I just want the hurt to stop. And I know it’s going to be better; I hope it’s going to be better. I know that it only hurts this much right now. I just don’t understand why it’s taking such a long time.

But I know I’m going to fix myself and celebrate the next Christmas as a new, happy, and fixed woman.

All I want for Christmas is you

It was on a cold December day, when Finneas was looking out of the window, watching Tatum carry heavy shopping bags. It was Christmas, Finneas’ favorite holiday, he literally loves everything about Christmas – freshly baked cookies, presents, and especially the chill atmosphere with Tatum.

And the gift he’d got for him? Nothing but a confession. Yes, Finneas was deeply in love with his best friend Tatum. It had now already been eight months, and he still hadn’t told him.

He jumped up as he heard the front door opening, so he ran down and yelled “Tate, you’re finally home!”

”Of course I am, how could I ever be late to spend Christmas Eve with you?” Tatum asked.

“R-Right” Finneas stuttered, blushing heavily at the sight of Tate’s view, the slightly reddened nose from the cold, and mostly his beautiful eyes, the intoxicating blue that made him feel like he was in heaven.

“Uhm, anyways, come in!” Finneas said, stepping away from the door to let Tatum in. “I’ve prepared dinner, we’re having steak with mashed potatoes.”

“Man, you never told me you could cook!” Tatum said jokingly, nudging his shoulder.

Finneas chuckled as he closed the door behind Tatum. “Maybe you don’t know everything about me… yet” he added.

“What do you mean?” Tatum asked, curious about what Finneas was hiding from him. Had he done something wrong? Was he okay?

“You’ll see…” Finneas answered, already feeling regret for saying these words out loud. “I’m so excited, I love Christmas!” he said happily, trying to change topic.

“I know, Finn, you say that every year, over and over again.” Tatum said as they went to sit at the table, their eyes fixated on the delicious-looking food that had been waiting for them.

1 hour later…

Tatum and Finneas were sitting on the couch, looking at the beautiful Christmas tree.

“Oh right, I got a present for you!” Tatum said, pulling out a small box out of his pocket.

“Oh, you didn’t have to…” Finneas said, blushing again.

Tatum handed him the small box and Finneas opened it. It was… a necklace with a teddy-bear pendant.

“Wow, thank you Tate, it’s so pretty…” Finneas said, putting the necklace on.

“Okay, so…I don’t have a material gift for you, it’s different.” Finneas said nervously. Would he get rejected or did Tatum reciprocate his feelings?

“Oh, now that sounds interesting.” Tatum said, excited.

Finneas hesitated, but spoke up after a short moment of silence “Tate… I love you. I have loved you for such a long time now, and you matter so much to me, I could never imagine letting you go. The thought of spending the rest of my life with you makes my heart clench in happiness, happy tears roll down my cheeks and my eyes glow from thinking about you.” Finneas said, his voice thick with emotion.

“Finn, I would never have guessed-…” Tatum stuttered.

“And to be honest? I wish I was one of your tears, so I could be born in your eyes, live on your cheeks, and die on your lips…” Finneas said, a tear rolling down his cheek and then – Tatum leaned forward and pressed his lips on Finneas’. It didn’t take him long to reciprocate it. A kiss, in the warm comfortable light of candles which smelled like cinnamon, with real passion and a full load of love. After a while, Tatum broke the kiss, whispering into Finneas’ ear “I love you too, my dear…” His voice softer than it had ever been, his eyes brighter than every star in the galaxy.

“I-I would love to have you as my boyfriend, Tate…” Finneas finally spoke up.

“Finn, this is the best gift I’ve ever gotten…” Tatum looked him deep into the eyes.

“I’m happy it is, and I’m excited to spend the rest of my life with you.” Finneas answered, his eyes glistering in the uncontrollable happiness he was feeling.

Cambridge Certificates 2025

After thorough preparation classes in spring and summer 2025, 55 of our students passed last year’s University of Cambridge English Examinations in May / June 2025.

16 pupils went for the FCE (First Certificate of English, Level B2 of the CEFR), one of whom even reached the C1 level. 39 pupils tackled the CAE (Certificate of Advanced English, Level C1 of the CEFR) – seven of whom had such outstanding results that they reached C2 – the highest possible level within the Common European Framework of References for Languages.

As tedious as the odd prep class in lesson 10 after a full day (with tons of homework still waiting for you) may have been at the time – it has turned out to be time well invested.

We are, once again, very proud and happy that such a large group of candidates passed the examinations – you are now equipped with a very prestigious certificate which will most certainly be of great value for you in your future!

A Delightful Week in Madrid: Our Erasmus Adventure!

Last week, from the 15th to the 21st of March, our school had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Erasmus+ food project in Madrid. This week was filled with learning, cultural exchange, and a deep dive into the world of food sustainability.

The international guests from Germany/France, Portugal, and Croatia arrived over the weekend, and after settling in, were ready to embark on a week of activities and discovery.

The week kicked off with lessons at Zola School, followed by a warm welcome reception and breakfast. We started our sustainability journey with icebreaker activities and an introduction to “Too Good To Go”, a fantastic tool for reducing food waste.

Giving Back to the Community

Our students then discovered the charity programme developed by Mr Jaime Rincon, who runs the restaurant Casa de comidas Carmela. For every meal sold, 3€ are directly donated to Los Chicos de Jose y Leo, a charity that provides school meals to children from deprived families. Our group helped packed food at the restaurant and bonded with the children at the canteen, a warm and unforgettable experience. On the next day, still focusing on the theme Food and Poverty, we attended a conference about food banks to provide valuabe insights into global food challenges.

Exploring Madrid’s Food Culture

We then ventured into Madrid to explore its sights and modern food markets. This hands-on experience allowed us to appreciate the diversity and richness of Madrid’s food culture.

A Journey to Segovia

Thursday took us to the charming city of Segovia, where we visited a small local, traditional market. This excursion also provided us with the opportunity to discover this quaint little city an hour away from Madrid.

Farewells and Gratitude

On Saturday, we bid farewell to our international friends. We’re grateful for the support and enthusiasm of all the families and community members who made this week possible. Our week in Madrid showed how great it is when people from different countries in Europe collaborate on values that matter to us all.

This Erasmus mobilty on the theme of food was the last leg of the journey for this project but we hope to revive it next year.

Creative Writing Marathon.

Come and write with us in the heart of winter!

For 9ers, 2nde, 1ère and Tle students

Where does it take place?
In our multi-purpose room (Mehrzweckraum / Salle Polyvalente)

And when?
On Friday, 6^th December 2024 from 16:00 to 20:00

Registration
If you’re interested, please tell your English teacher before 3rd December 2024!

Why should I go there?
Because you like writing a good story …

What happens with the stories?
Your text will be read by the participating teachers. If you accept, your story might be published on the school’s website and/or in the yearbook. If you don’t, it was just for the fun of it!

How does it work?
Well, you will only get the topic at the beginning of the writing night.
You can write on paper or on your laptop, sitting down or lying on the floor …
You can bring a dictionary and/or ask the English teachers for vocabulary and advice…
You can listen to music while you are writing, munch on snacks you brought, discuss your ideas with others…
Bring along some finger food (salads, savoury and sweet pies, cakes… anything goes, as long as we can share it!) and drinks: the teachers will provide plates, glasses and cutlery, and we will all share at the end!

Cambridge Certificates 2024
