La d\u00e9cision de cr\u00e9er un \u00e9tablissement commun binational \u00e9tait alors un acte de courage de la part des responsables politiques qui avaient confiance en l&rsquo;avenir. C&rsquo;\u00e9tait le premier mod\u00e8le de lyc\u00e9e binational fonctionnant selon des programmes et objectifs p\u00e9dagogiques \u00e9labor\u00e9s en commun et accept\u00e9s par les deux pays. L&rsquo;\u00e9tablissement est devenu le symbole et le moteur de l&rsquo;amiti\u00e9 franco-allemande encore naissante. La convention de 1972 concernant l&rsquo;\u00e9tablissement des lyc\u00e9es franco-allemands, portant cr\u00e9ation du baccalaur\u00e9at franco-allemand et fixant les conditions de d\u00e9livrance de ce dipl\u00f4me, fut l&rsquo;aboutissement des travaux d&rsquo;harmonisation souvent difficiles.<\/p>\n<p>Le premier baccalaur\u00e9at franco-allemand s&rsquo;est d\u00e9roul\u00e9 en mai-juin 1972. Dans les ann\u00e9es 1970 les lyc\u00e9es franco-allemands de Fribourg-en-Brisgau et de Buc, pr\u00e8s de Versailles, furent cr\u00e9\u00e9s selon le m\u00eame mod\u00e8le. Depuis 1972, le lyc\u00e9e franco-allemand de Sarrebruck est devenu un \u00e9tablissement public du Land de Sarre : les r\u00e8glements administratifs, financiers et scolaires sont conformes \u00e0 la l\u00e9gislation sarroise. Depuis 1992, la gestion de l&rsquo;\u00e9tablissement est du ressort du Stadtverband Saarbr\u00fccken. Le lyc\u00e9e se d\u00e9finit comme un lieu de rencontre.
