After a two-year break because of Covid, we were finally able to resume our project « The Soil under my Feet ».
Pupils from our partner schools in Croatia, Greece, Italy and Spain visited the French-German High School and we worked on the theme of immigration. It was a week full of activities and emotions and as usual, it was difficult to say goodbye and get back to our normal lives.
As tradition dictates, we took part in games that strengthened the bonds within the group and on the first day the pupils took part in a treasure hunt to discover Saarbrücken.
On Wednesday, we tackled a more serious topic that left no one indifferent. Thanks to Caritas and the testimonies of refugees and migrants, we were able to hear first-hand what these refugees had to endure when they had to flee from war and integrate in a country where they did not know the language and social codes.
These first-hand accounts gave a face to the stories we regularly see on our screens and made us aware that behind the abstract statistics and war reports there are people who had very similar lives to ours.
The last day of the project was dedicated to « Welcome to my Village », a play dough game that put the pupils in the role of migrants who do not master the language or the codes of a community.
Underneath the game aspect is an activity designed to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by migrants who are forced to integrate into a new group.
Of course, as with any Erasmus project, it was also an opportunity to make cultural discoveries in Strasbourg and Heidelberg, but also to have fun and make new friendships that will last well beyond the project.
