Chess Club

The DFG-LFA Chess Club takes place on Wednesdays during the 7th and 8th periods in room 0.17 (the start date for the 2026/27 school year is yet to be announced). It is led by Mr Scholl. The Chess Club is open to pupils of all year groups; no prior knowledge of chess is required.

During the 7th period, participants are given short chess puzzles, such as ‘Find a checkmate in 1 move’. Each pupil works on individually selected puzzles according to their ability. During the 8th period, participants play chess against one another in various formats: with and without a chess clock, ‘robber’s chess’ or ‘musical chairs’.

The DFG-LFA Chess Club has been taking part in various school chess competitions in the Saarland for many years. It has won several titles, and the Saarland Championship in the girls’ category.
