CAREER GUIDANCE AT DFG-LFA
Julien Robichon is a career and higher education guidance counsellor at the Job Centre. He has also been working in this role at DFG-LFA since the 2019/2020 academic year, offering pupils in Years 9 to Terminale support with career planning and choosing a course of study.

In order to provide students with early and comprehensive information about opportunities and prospects, particularly within the labour market of the Saar-Lor-Lux Greater Region, the Franco-German High School organises participation in numerous activities and events, both within and outside the school.
Careers and Higher Education Forum at the Franco-German HIGH School
Since the 2011/2012 academic year, our school has been hosting a careers and higher education forum. The event enables students in Years 11 and 12 to attend information sessions and take a tour of the stands set up in the DFG-LFA’s multi-purpose room.
Franco-German Careers Forum presented by parents
The Parents’ Careers Forum, co-organised by the ALFA School Association, offers Year 8 pupils the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of careers through direct contact with professionals in those fields. To this end, every year parents volunteer to present their professions in classrooms and answer the pupils’ questions.
AI PROJECT Steiger-KI
The SteigerKI project was initiated by Prof. Dr Hemmerling and encourages school pupils to engage with technical innovations, ethical issues and social responsibility. With the support of AI researchers, the pupils take a hands-on approach to exploring AI applications that may influence their future careers and lives.
Job application training for Year 12 students
Year 12 students have the opportunity to take part in an in-school job application training programme. This provides practical advice on job applications, such as the correct structure and content of CVs and cover letters, and how to prepare for interviews. It also offers insights into the job market and information on the impact of AI on job roles and career paths.
(Cross-border) internship
The aim of the work experience placement in Year 9 is to give our pupils an insight into the world of work and careers, thereby helping them with their future career choices. The company may be located within the school’s catchment area in Germany or France. The 14-day placement is scheduled to take place before the school’s Easter holidays.
German-French Forum in Strasbourg
Every year, a visit to the Forum franco-allemand in Strasbourg, organised by the Franco-German University, is arranged for DFG-LFA pupils. This European careers and education fair features around 200 international exhibitors, job and internship opportunities, and numerous workshops.
Information fairs „Abi – was dann?” & Vocatium
A visit to the job and higher education fair, which takes place every two years at the Saarbrücken Congress Centre, enables future A-level students to find out about a wide range of careers and degree programmes.
Companies, universities and institutions from Germany and abroad will introduce themselves and be on hand to answer pupils’ questions. In addition, high-profile speakers and presenters will give talks and lead workshops on topics relating to higher education, vocational training and careers, sharing their expertise in their respective fields.

Junior Study Programme at Saarland University
Every year, a number of senior DFG/LFA students take on the challenge of attending courses at Saarland University alongside their already substantial school workload. Our school supports and encourages pupils who, thanks to their high level of motivation and exceptional commitment, are prepared to study at university level – not least because this gives them the opportunity to assess their choice of degree subject before beginning their actual university studies and to set the course for a successful university career at an early stage. The junior students are supervised by Ms Hawke-Pasterkamp.
Contacts with companies & factory tours
The Franco-German High School maintains contact with companies and organisations. In particular, in the Economic and Social Sciences class, from Year 10 onwards, the programme includes information sessions led by invited company representatives or visits to workplaces, designed to give our pupils a practical insight into the world of work.
‘easy management’ business simulation
Running a business, devising a marketing plan, choosing a sales strategy and positioning the business against the competition in the market … This is what pupils get to do in the regular role-play game ‘easyManagement’, organised by the ArbeitsLeben Wirtschaft Schule (ALWIS) association.
DFG-LFA Alumni Forum
As part of the DFG-LFA Alumni Forum, former students return to their former school to talk to our current pupils about their careers, their educational paths after A-levels, their vocational training and their universities. These inspiring conversations and the sharing of experiences provide our pupils with valuable insights and motivate them to forge their own paths.
Agora-Monde
The AGORA Monde platform is available to students to support them in their university and career guidance.
This tool, developed by the AEFE, is designed to connect pupils at French schools abroad around the world with former pupils who are now at university, so that they can discuss university life.
Advice, videos, personal accounts and articles are made available to pupils to help them plan their future.

Presentation events organised by the Franco-German University (DFH)
As part of internal school events, the Franco-German University and the Frankreichzentrum provide information – particularly on binational degree programmes – for Year 11 and 12 pupils.

Institutions and universities from Germany, France and other European countries visit our school and introduce themselves to the pupils at information sessions.

Visits to German and French universities
In addition to the events held directly at our school, our pupils are regularly given the opportunity to get to know local German and French schools by attending lectures
For example, they can visit the renowned elite university Sciences Po Paris at its campus in Nancy. The so-called Franco-German undergraduate programme there lasts two years and provides a grounding in economics, political science, law and history. Students then spend a year abroad at a partner university or on a work placement, before going on to complete one of the Master’s programmes offered by Sciences Po Paris at its main campus in Paris.
